Imagine a stool with only 2 legs, or - worse yet - only 1 leg. Could you expect to sit on it for a long period of time? Of course, you could balance there for a while, but over time, you would grow tired and fall off.

That's what weight training - or any other self-improvement plan - is like. You require at least 3 things to be successful:

Training | Diet | Recovery
This is what I call the 3 Pillars. You can "get by" for some time only being seriuos about your training. Or your diet. But you have to get all 3 right in order to maximize your efforts.

Look, none of us have unlimited time. We don't have time to waste. We have jobs, families, other commitments. We have only a finite time to train, prepare meals, and sleep. A proper weight training system seeks to strike the right balance between these three pillars and the rest of your life.
My prescription is as follows:
  • Train hard but short
  • Eat 5-8 smallish and balanced meals a day
  • Get 7-9 hours of sleep
  • Throw in a nap when you can. 15 minutes works miracles!
So, remember the 3 Pillars next time you want to skip lunch. Or stay up all night. Or spend anything over 30 minutes weight training.

More is not always better. Balance is best.

Aspiring bodybuilders always want to gain mass as fast as possible, looking for weight gain supplements, pills, and "fads" or "gimmicks" to get as big as possible in the shortest amount of time. (Not to mention anabolic steroids.)

This is wrong-headed thinking.

Besides eating a sufficient amount of calories to support the weight gain they want and getting adequate rest, the number one way to build massive muscles is to strength train. That's right, training for strength is a surefire way to increase muscle mass.

Here's how to get stronger: Lift heavier weights!

Duh!

Seriously, the key to getting stronger is to try to lift heavier weights each and every work-out. Don't do maximum single-rep sets, however. If you're trying to build strength, you want to perform sets of 6-8 reps for the upper body and 6-10 reps for the lower body.

Concentrate on exercises that involve the major muscle groups of the body (the chest, back, and thighs) like Bench presses, Squats, Bent-over Rows, Shoulder presses, and Deadlifts. Add in some strength-building exercises for the supporting muscles, like barbell curls, tricep extensions, calf presses, and leg curls.

Following a strength building routine will give your muscles the power they need to lift heavy weights when you go back to a more "traditional" bodybuilding routine.

After all, muscles get bigger because they have to. Forcing your muscles to lift heavier and heavier weights will force the muscle fibers to have to get stronger. And by getting stronger, they'll get bigger, too.

Sometimes, you won't see size gains in the mirror or in the measuring tape. But rest assured, if you see strength gains, the muscle gains will follow!

Degenerative arthritis, which is also referred to as osteoarthritis, is a specific kind of arthritis which is mainly the result of the breakdown as well as the total and ultimate loss of cartilage of one or more of a persons joints. Amongst the over 100 unique kinds of arthritis conditions that are recognized at the current time, degenerative arthritis is in reality the most prevalent as well as the most problematic in nature.

Degenerative Arthritis - The Known Causes

Degenerative arthritis has a number of unique causes that are responsible. The number one responsible factor involved is that of aging. Because of aging the content of water within the cartilage in the body becomes augmented, and the total protein consistency of cartilage starts to degenerate.

Eventually, after some time passes, the cartilage starts to degenerate in an extreme manner through the process of flaking and then forming minute crevasses, and when it gets to the more advanced cases, what then occurs is that there is a complete loss of cartilage cushion that rest between the joints and the bones, and this normally results in a high degree of serious inflammation and a great deal of intense pain.

The Process of Diagnosis

As soon as you are aware of any kind of acute pain or swelling within your muscles or joints, you should have an appointment with your physician setup, so that you can get to see him as soon as possible in order to get the quickest and most accurate diagnoses, the sooner that you get the right treatment to help in relieving your inflammation and pain the better.

Degenerative Arthritis - Treatment

You can select from several unique forms of treatment. The less severe of these treatments would be an elevation in physical activity as well as a modification in your diet, as this is thought that by stopping the intake of certain foods from your diet, your arthritis will encounter less irritation overall.

Nevertheless if you feel that you are in need of a treatment that is stronger you always have the option of talking to your doctor in regards to medication. You will typically find that the use of Aspirin is a highly recommended option. Treatments such as Rimadyl, which is a kind of medication that was created as a refinement on Aspirin, This can help in relieving the pain that is induced by your osteoarthritis.

Numerous individuals instantly come to the assumption that by having arthritis their life is going to be taken away, yet you should know that this is not the case, and that as long as you obtain the right type of diagnosis and proper treatment you should continue on with your daily activities.

For the record, currently about one percent of the total population of the United States suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Statistics show that there is a marked increase in the number of cases being diagnosed just like all other degenerative diseases. It is therefore important that an understanding of what rheumatoid arthritis is and what the signs are  which should be disseminated amongst the population so that sufferers will seek an early diagnosis to enable relevant lifestyle changes be implemented before the symptoms become serious.

Being better informed not only assist in early diagnosis but with n understanding of what the disease is, what is likely to eventuate and what you can do to prepare for these eventuation’s

If you are unlucky and the doctor informs you that you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, the news can be quite devastating. However, understanding this disease is one way that you could come to terms with it, know what to expect, when and establish a plan of action to control it in the best manner you can.

What Is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

It is known that when rheumatoid arthritis occurs, the body's immune system suddenly turns against itself destroying the tissues found in and around the  joints. This is why the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis includes extreme pain at the joints, it usually occurs in the joints of the same limb on each side of the body).  It is believed that the sufferer’s genetics play an important role in the development of this disease.  (Research is currently underway in this area.

The doctor diagnosis the occurrence of this disease by identifying the ‘rheumatoid factor’ in the patient’s blood, (is actually an antibody) that indicates the presence of this debilitating disease. The association of the presence of this antibody and the typical symptoms such as pain, inflammation of the joints and limitation of movement usually confirms the diagnosis. X-ray of the affected joints can also be used to further confirm the existence of the disease.

As rheumatoid arthritis is a serious disease, it is important to get an early diagnosis so that you can have it treated. Rheumatoid arthritis can progress fast attacking not only the joints but also the more vital organs in the body – such as (the lining of) the heart, lungs and kidneys. This disease can also strike in the tear ducts and the salivary glands. Rheumatoid arthritis can occur at any time usually between the ages of 20 to the late 50’s and when it strikes it is very hard to cure.

If you are unlucky and get it, it is not the end of the world. Thankfully, there are medications, proper exercise and alternative treatments all designed to make the disease more manageable and your changed lifestyle as pleasant as possible. Take it as yet another challenge in in the journey of life. Why not use the power of positive thinking, look at all the marvelous blessings you have and will experience and this disease is only another event to be overcome.

A strict regime in relation to your diet and exercise program is necessary to keep your body in good shape whilst ensuring your immune system is operating and keeping all other diseases at bay. allowing your body to cope with the stresses and strains of rheumatoid arthritis.

Are you looking for an Arthritis Cure? Arthritis usually means pain in the joints but it is a disease of the muscles and the bones so there could also be swelling and pain all over. Each bone is covered with a living tissue that covers the ends of the bones and guards them from rubbing against each other; this tissue is known as the Cartilage. Cartilage is made of living cells known as chondrocytes and this tissue resembles many of the other human organs. The chondrocytes die, they are replaced with new ones and the life cycle goes on. This article will focus on explaining arthritis versus arthritis cures.
However, over time inflammation can kill more cartilage cells than the body can replace. This is more so if the body is undernourished and lacks the required nutrients to repair or the joint has suffered an injury. Lack of sufficient cartilage, can cause instability, joint weakness, pain and deformity, all of which affect and interrupt regular activities. Generally, arthritis can be treated with physical therapy, medication, and changes to the lifestyle the individual is used to living. Health care providers use joint replacement surgery as their last resort, once they have tried all of the less intrusive interventions, to try and relieve the discomfort.
Arthritis is mainly categorized into two types, 'localized' and 'generalized' depending on which areas are affected (body or the joints); they are then sub categorized further. One of the sub-categories is localized conditions which only affect the soft tissue that surrounds the bones or joints, and is used to relate to conditions like tendonitis or bursitis. A sub-category of this affects one or some of the joints like hip or knee joints. In generalized arthritis, the disease affects the soft tissue and muscle where there isn't any evidence of inflammation or swelling. This condition does not indicate joint damage; a common type in this category is fibromyalgia.
The second sub category is one where there is inflammation and the whole body is affected. Rheumatoid arthritis, gout and psortiatis arthritis are examples of the next conditions in this subcategory. Other generalized conditions are polymyositis (muscles); systemic lupus erythematosus (skin, kidneys, or other organs); and vasculitis (any organ).
However a person may suffer from multiple kinds of arthritis, in the United States of America around forty six million adults and abut three hundred thousand children suffer from hundred medical conditions. The condition is most common as osteoarthritis in adults age 60 and above but it can start as early as infancy. The numbers are increasing as the American population ages and more and more people are beginning to suffer from arthritis.
Arthritis and related illnesses are the cause of major disability in the U.S. and costs over 124 billion dollars a year in medical care and indirect expenses. By taking the time to follow a couple of simple steps, most individuals can help to prevent osteoarthritis: The ability to maintain the appropriate weight and consume fresh vegetables and fruits are a really good source of vitamins D and C. Consumption of calcium is very important, adults must consume about 1000-1500mg calcium every day, exercising daily is a must and one must avoid injuries that may damage the joints.

The Health Benefits of Flax

Posted by billspaced | 3:04 AM | 0 comments »

Even thousands of years ago, at the early stage of civilization, human beings in such parts of the world as Egypt and Babylon were aware of the many health benefits of Flax towards making a healthy and disease free system.

But what flex seed exactly is?

Flex is a kind of oil seeds that had been produced for thousands of years in the fertile soils at the bank of the river valleys.

The flax can be classified into two broad types:

  • The first variety falls under the category of oil seed and is grown for the sole purpose of being used as seeds.
  • The second variety is cultivated as fiber to be specifically used in the textile industry.

Where to find?

The ancient flax crops were produced as field crops in large scale in the fertile lands of Babylon and Egypt. From these places, the flax production has spread across the countries of Africa and from there to Europe. It didn’t take much time to cross the Atlantic to arrive at USA. Today flax is grown all over the world. But majority of the flax production of world today comes from USA and Canada. In North America as a whole, flax is produced commercially as oil seed varieties. In the USA, vast regions of North and South Dakota are known for their extensive flax production.

The health benefits of flax

It was around 650 B.C. that Hippocrates had made known the magical qualities of flax in reducing abdominal pains. Over the course of history, many health and nutritional benefits have been discovered by the scientists. Today it is considered that flax as the part of balanced diet has the potential of cutting on the risk of many dangerous diseases including cancer and cardio vascular diseases. But how does it make this magic possible? Let’s describe one by one.

Flax seed is the best source of good fats in our body

Flax seed oil comes with a high content of Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA). ALA is an essential fatty acid which we have to consume through the foods, as our body does not manufacture it. Once inside the body, ALA is converted into EPA and DHA. These two substances help maintain heart health and brain function and prevent arthritis and thrombotic disease. ALA also helps in improving immune function, cancer prevention, and male infertility.

Great laxative

Flax is also a great source of soluble and insoluble dietary fibers. Thus consumption of flax seeds or flax oils works for improved bowel movement and colon function.

Antioxidant properties

Among the vegetations, flax is the highest supplier of lignans---by fighting against some environmental toxins. Lignans also help reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer, especially breast and colon cancers.

Prevents Male Infertility

DHA deficiency in sperm cells leads to male infertility. The ALA in flax helps to overcome this shortcoming.

Now that you know the many natural health benefits of flax, consider adding flaxseeds or flax seed oil to your daily diet in whole, milled or capsule form. For adequate supplementation of ALA and lignans in your body, consider consuming 30 gm flax on regular basis.

Red, burning, swollen and so stiff you don't want to move...
that's what those who suffer from arthritis experience on a
daily basis. If you know this all to well, you are probably
one of the 46 million Americans (that's 1 out of every 5
people) that are living with arthritis every day. To better
understand how to get relief from this debilitating disease
we need to dive deeper into its root cause.

Some of the types of arthritis which are associated with
inflammation include:

* rheumatoid arthritis
* gout
* tendinitis
* bursitis
* polymyalgia rheumatica

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis actually means joint (arthr) inflammation (itis).
Arthritis can be used to define a group of more than 100
rheumatic diseases and other conditions that can cause pain,
stiffness and swelling in the joints or any part of your body.
Additionally, it can damage the joint cartilage which can lead
to joint weakness, instability and visible deformities that
can interfere and, in severe cases, limit a person's ability to
perform most basic daily tasks such as walking, climbing stairs,
using a computer keyboard, washing dishes or brushing your
teeth. Arthritis can affect anyone regardless of age and most
commonly affects joints in the knees, hips, hands and spine. If
left undiagnosed and not treated properly, arthritis can cause
irreversible damage to the joints, bones, organs, and skin. Not
to mention dramatically impair your quality of life.

Arthritis-related conditions primarily affect the muscles and
the bones but it is also considered to be systemic, affecting
the whole body. Arthritis can cause damage to any bodily organ
or system, including the lungs, kidneys, blood vessels, skin and
even the heart. The Arthritis Foundation sites two independent
studies (Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and at the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota) both of which prove that the
widespread inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis is linked to
heart disease and an increased risk of early death.

No one really knows the exact cause of arthritis but there are
certain risk factors to keep in mind:

* Genetics - likely to contribute to risk but no one knows
how much.
* Age - the older you are the more at risk you become.
* Weight - maintaining a healthy weight will ease the load on
the joints.
* Previous Injury - major injuries are likely to contribute to
risk.
* Occupational Hazards - repetitive, high demand jobs increase
risk.
* Certain Sports - high level, high demand sports can
contribute to arthritis (however, general exercise is always
a plus)
* Illness or infection - an infection in the joint or gout can
lead to arthritis.

What we do know is that when you have arthritis your immune system
goes into over-drive and causes the joints to swell and become
inflamed. Therefore, treating the inflammation becomes key in
managing the pain and discomfort associated with this condition.

Sadly enough, the Arthritis Foundation reports that half of those
Americans with arthritis don't believe anything can be done to help
ease their pain. You may be in that situation yourself, having
thrown your hands up in frustration and simply decided to live with
your pain. The good news is that by reducing the inflammation you
can significantly ease the painful symptoms associated with
arthritis.

Here are a few ways to reduce your inflammation:

* Exercise - less weight equals less stress on joints
* Diet - Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole-grain
products; limit sugar, salt and fat (especially saturated fat
found in animal products)
* Rest - a good balance between rest and activity is the key to
joint health
* Over-the-counter and prescription medications - while these may
provide temporary relief by masking the pain they are not always
get to the root of the problem - inflammation. They can also
have serious side effects, especially with long-term use.
* Natural anti-inflammatory supplements - probably the most
promising natural approach to reducing inflammation in a long
while. We recommend looking for supplements containing systemic
enzymes and all-natural herbal ingredients.

By taking these simple steps to reducing inflammation you will be well
on your way to managing your arthritis pain and it devastating effects
on your mind and body. Everyone should strive to achieve a healthy and
active lifestyle for optimal health and wellbeing.

Learn to get your life back.

When it comes to body building, many people erroneously assume that all one needs to do is haphazardly do any type of exercises without any rhyme, reason or logic. This is not a wise move because there are very specific purposes for body building exercises designed to provide two goals of either increased mass or increased definition. By understanding that there are differences between mass building exercises and those exercises that are designed for more definition the ability to arrive at one’s goals will be greater facilitated. After all, if you are exercising then you have a certain set of goals in mind and you will want the proper exercises that will be required to reach those goals.

Building Mass
The most common body building exercises people perform are compound exercises. When you are performing compound body building exercises you are primarily working on mass. That is, compound exercises mean that more than one body part is used to lift the weight. Bench presses, while generally considered chest exercises, also provide secondary stress to the biceps, triceps and shoulders. So, these other muscles grow as well as the chest although not to the same degree. Other common body building exercises that perform compound exercises include squats and military presses. Now, these exercises are not necessarily designed to make the person’s muscle mass huge (although they certainly can be used for this purpose) these exercises can be used in a lesser capacity so as not to massively pack on muscle.

Sculpting Definition
The second type of body building exercises that are employed are those exercises that are isolation exercises. These exercises do not involve more than one muscle group and are designed to specially develop the muscles of a particular area. These exercises can be employed with high repetitions to burn fat and usually follow a cycle of mass building so as to create the definition that mass requires for aesthetic looks. Please note, contrary to popular belief these exercises cannot spot reduce fat in a particular area. Yes, fat will be burned, but it will be burned evenly throughout the body as opposed to any specific or particular area.
Of course, there are other areas that need to be taken into consideration as well such as diet, cardio etc, but the areas of mass building and definition generally cover the basics that one would need in order to achieve a baseline level of success and to reach his or her goals.

Get up off that couch and join the fitness revolution. Make exercise and a healthy diet part of your daily  routine, you will be surprised at the difference it will have on your life.
